Resolutions

Untitled

For the first time in a very long time I don't have any New Year's resolutions.  Not even secret ones that I don't bother to share just in case I fail and I admit, it feels great to start the year off this way!

I guess I made my resolutions back in early November when I decided to start running again.  Looking back, I'm glad that I did it that way because I just ran into the new year like nothing happened.  I had already established my habit and it felt great to start 2013 like that.

So even though I made no resolutions, my first race of the year is this Saturday.  It's the Resolution 5k on 1/12/13 which strikes me a little odd and funny that it wouldn't be on New Year's day but I guess it fits fairly well with my no resolution start to 2013.

The best part of this race is that my daughter will be running it with me! {She's the cutie in the picture at the top of this post}.  After I started running again a few months ago she started expressing interest in joining me.  She just turned 9 and when I told her about this race I also told her that there was a 1 mile fun run that I would be happy to enter her in.  That was not received well by this competitive little girl!  She promptly replied that she could have just as much fun running the "real" race.

I have no idea where she gets this competitive streak... ;)

I feel relatively ready for Saturday.  I still run pretty slow but I am running a solid 30 minutes now.  It's amazing how far I've come from my starting point of running 1 minute and walking 1.5 minutes x 6.  I think my biggest concern has to do with keep up with Chaney!  She's pretty fast so the race should be a lot of fun.

I have no time goal in mind.  I don't know if that makes me a "bad" runner but for my first race in 10 years my main goal is to have fun and enjoy watching Chaney.  We'll see how it goes!

  1. Good luck & I hope you both have fun in the 5k. That's great that she wants to do the whole thing!

  2. How awesome to have her as a running partner! My stepdaughter, 16, encourages me to get to the gym and works out with me. ( we just started). It's nice to have someone to work out with and for. :D
